I have pretty much decided to go ahead and buy the Dell XPS 1210. Been in the market to buy a laptop for quite a while now.
I was always looking for a light weight laptop, that I could carry to the office, to my living room and balcony, with ease.
2 -2.5 kgs is what I was looking at. I also wanted Vista. I could have gone ahead and bought a Windows XPP based system, but then, Why should one buy a 5 year old operating system, specially if there is a new one just round the corner?

The other things that I wanted to do with this was
- Play Fifa 2007 and the latest Need for Speed with ease.
- Use it for my day to day Java,Ruby and PHP development activities.
- Run Ubuntu.
- Make BSNL’s Dataone Broadband work on it.
I had the following configuration in mind before venturing out. I wanted
- At least 2GB RAM, in order to run Aero, and still have plenty of room left for Eclipse and InetlliJ.
- A mid range graphics card like the ATI X1400 or NVidia Go 7400/7600.
- At least 1280*800 screen resolution
- Around 4lb-5lb in weight
- Built in network card, wireless and bluetooth support and a DVD burner
- A decent processor. Should at the very least be 64-bit.
- Vista
I basically had 4 other choices
- Sony Vaio SZ Series, 13.3 inch screen Nvidia Go 7600.
- Toshiba M100 with a 14 inch screen
- HP Pavilion 2100 series
- Apple Mac Book with it’s 13.3 inch screen.
The reasons for not going with the above choices are many. I will list them in the later posts.
